About Me & My Passion for Consent Work

Hey there! I’m Bob (he/him). I’m passionate about making consent education accessible, practical, and empowering.

My journey into consent work began with a deep interest in improving education around sexual and touch-based consent. As a youth and community worker since the 1990s, much of my early work focused on sexual health and education. However, I often felt that traditional relationships and sex education didn’t equip young people with the skills to navigate agency and autonomy—especially against cultural norms that often reinforce non-consensual pressures for all involved.

In 2019, I encountered Dr Betty Martin’s Wheel of Consent, an embodied somatic practice that fundamentally transformed my understanding of consent. After attending an introductory weekend, it became clear that this model filled major gaps in how consent was taught, particularly in relationships and sex education. Since then, I’ve spent six years assisting and co-training on Wheel of Consent courses run by certified facilitators across the UK, Europe, and the US. I've completed the Wheel of Consent Certified Facilitator course and am currently pursuing full certification. I have also contributed to student consent workshops at Oxford University and Cambridge University.

If we’ve crossed paths at one of these trainings—how are you doing? Have you been able to deepen your practise of this model? Would you like some further practise and support?

What I’ve discovered is that consent education shouldn’t be limited to young people or sexual contexts. This practice has profoundly shaped how I interact in all relationships, including how I engage with myself. As Betty Martin wisely says, “Not everything fits onto the Wheel”—but as I like to say, “It’s amazing how much does!”

As a brown, queer, trans, neurodivergent, disabled person, socialised as female, my work has focused on exploring how patterns of oppression and trauma intersect with consent practices. Through this lens, I’ve come to understand how power, privilege, and systemic structures shape our interactions—and how we can make choices that foster greater dignity, respect, and personal agency.

My Work & Experience

I currently serve as Training Coordinator for 2BU Somerset, a charity supporting LGBTQ+ young people. Over the last three decades, my lived experience and professional work have led me to extensive studies in trauma, consent, sexuality, gender, and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI).

I'm also a qualified Massage Therapist and Coach and as a member of the Complementary Therapists Association, I work in alignment with their code of conduct, ensuring ethical, professional, and compassionate engagement in all aspects of my practice.
